A 1991 graduate of St. John’s University, Dan Furlong spent the 1990-91 and 1991-92 NBA seasons as a sports medicine intern with the NY Knicks before departing to begin graduate studies at University of Connecticut. He returned ten years later in 2002 as assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach under Greg Brittenham, Assistant Coach / Player Development.
Now, along with being President and founder of Trinity Biomechanics, Dan is also Vice President and Associate Director of Academy For Human Performance. Earning a Masters degree in Kinesiology from UCONN, he applies over 16 years experience in the strength and conditioning and health and fitness fields to both institutions.
The Westchester County native has been instrumental in the development of Academy For Human Performance – an athletic development and strength and conditioning program housed in The Brewster Sports Center, Brewster, NY. The Brewster Sports Center hosts meeting space, an indoor turf field, three basketball courts, a weight room and a cardiovascular area. These areas feature state-of-the-art equipment to accentuate the overall development of a host of athletes from all sports at all levels.
Dan possesses a wealth of strength and conditioning knowledge and maintains a vast repertoire of programs for overall athletic improvement. While at the Knicks, his focus was to assist Greg with the responsibility of the players’ overall athletic development, strength & conditioning, and post-rehabilitation.
While taking a break from his course of study, Dan traveled as a Tour Trainer for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) on the professional circuit throughout 1998 and up until 2000. He was selected to be a member of the Sports Medicine Team at the 2000 US Open. Later, in 2001, he was called to serve as Youth Pastor at Pelham Bay Assembly of God Church in Bronx, NY and as an interim Personal Training Manager at Equinox Health Club in Scarsdale, NY until 2002 when he returned to the NBA.
While his chief focus is on the development of Trinity Biomechanics, he and his staff also oversee strength and conditioning and athletic development programs for local schools and sports clubs. Dan is now entering his 16th season as The Host Athletic Trainer For College Basketball Events and Professional Boxing Events at Madison Square Garden as well as balancing his responsibilities for Academy For Human Performance.
